Mokena Music Students are invited to see the final dress rehearsal for LWE's production of Beauty and the Beast on Wednesday, April 2nd. The doors open at 3:30pm and the performance will begin at 4:00pm. Students must arrive before 4:00pm is they are attending (they can't come in after the performance has begun). The musical will probably be over around 7:00pm. Students who would like to attend should be dropped of at the LWE auditorium that afternoon and picked up that evening - bus service will not be provided.
This event is for MJH music students only - not parents or siblings. Mrs. Cheney will be there to supervise the students.
Students have the option over the summer to participate in many different music camps
sponsored through colleges and universities. If your students are participating in one of these camps, they are eligible to apply to the Mokena Music Booster Summer Camp Scholarship. Students who are participating in a summer music camp (not our Band and Choir camp at Mokena) can apply to receive some financial assistance from the Mokena Music Boosters. The application will be due to Mrs. Cheney or Mrs. Bussean by Wednesday, April 30th for students interested in applying for this scholarship. While turning in an application does no guarantee a scholarship, the boosters to their best to help as many students as possible.
The application will be emailed out to families, hard copies will be made available in the music room, and it has been put on the Documents section of the website.
If you are unaware, there are many summer music camps for Jr. High students at
local universities. Here are some of the most popular for our students:
University of Illinois: http://isym.music.illinois.edu/
Eastern Illinois University: http://www.eiu.edu/music/camps_band.php
Illinois State University: http://summersymposium.illinoisstate.edu/junior/concert/
Blue Lake Summer Camp: http://www.bluelake.org/summer_school_of_the_arts.html
University of Wisconsin Whitewater: http://www.uww.edu/ce/camps/music/percussion
While this is not a comprehensive list, it is a starting point if you’re interested in learning about some local options. If you learn of other camps (perhaps suggested through private lesson teachers) you can still apply for the scholar
The Mokena Music Boosters offer a scholarship for 8th graders who will be continuing music in high school. This need-based scholarship can be filled out by current 8th graders who plan on continuing their music education. The applications will be emailed out to families and made available to students in the music room. The application is also available in the Documents sections o
