Band Camp begins on Monday, August 10 at 9:00 am at MJHS and runs until noon. Please make sure your child is wearing gym shoes, sunscreen and has a bottle of water every day. Sunglasses and hats are a good ideas as well because we will be outside a significant amount of time. All students should have their lyre and flip folder on the first day, as well as their marching music (see below). Band Camp runs Monday – Thursday (August 10 – 13) from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. We will have rehearsals at MJHS on Monday and Tuesday, but depending on how far we get on the music and fundamentals, we will hopefully move to Main Park on Wednesday and Thursday. It is very important that everyone sign up for the Remind texts as that will be the most up-to-date information. I will send emails as well and will update the website.
Once school begins, we will have rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 4:00 pm (that is a change). Most of these rehearsals will take place at Main Park. We are currently working out the bussing of students from MJHS to Main Park for those rehearsals and I will keep you posted on that as soon as I have more information. Students will need to be picked up at 4:00 promptly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If the weather is bad, we will stay at MJHS (again a Remind text will be sent to let you know). All students will be responsible for getting their instruments to and from Main Park and back to school the next morning.
Our field show performance is scheduled for Sunday, September 20 at Lincoln-Way East. I don’t have the times yet, but we will be performing at at least two Burros games that day. Once the Burros give me their schedule, I will forward that information on to you.
As every person is important in learning the drill, please make sure your student is present for ALL rehearsals. If we are missing one person, it creates a hole not only in the drill design, but in the music as well. Everyone will be depending on everyone else to make this show a success!
Guard members should come to Camp ready to learn. We will have flags for you that day.
Music has been uploaded to the website (www.mokenameteormusic159.org). Please print off your part and begin practicing it right away. The more you come prepared the first day, the sooner we can learn our drill on the football field. When you go to the website, click on Marching Band. Please practice, the Star Spangled Banner (we will perform this at the football game), America (our parade tune), Any Way You Want It (our opener) and Mokena Fight (our closer). You will be required to enter a password to get to the music. Our password is Music159 (case sensitive).
