Crew Descriptions
TECHNICAL CREW
The Technical Crew is perfect for the busy student that is involved with other activities or sports at MJHS. Members of the Technical Crew can come to a work call as often as their schedule allows, and will help with the construction, painting, lighting, and properties of the musical. Students that sign up for Crew will be named in the program. Technical Crew Call schedules will be posted online. Members of the technical crew are expected to assist during the final production of the show (final assignment are at the discretion of the Tech Director). Technical Crew opportunities are available to any student, grades 6-8.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
This person will be chosen via an interview with a panel of judges. This person will be Mrs. Bussean's right hand during ALL rehearsals, Tech Week Rehearsals and Performances. This person must understand that they must attend ALL rehearsals from the beginning to the final set strike. This person must have a critical eye for detail, be able to take detailed notes and not be afraid to call other students to task.
STAGE MANAGER
This person will be chosen via an interview with a panel of judges. This person is responsible for overseeing ALL technical and production crew members and their assignments. They are responsible for making sure everyone is on task and will be backstage during Tech Week rehearsals and performances to help "call" the show. This person must be very detail-oriented and able to focus on multiple tasks at once.
SET CONSTRUCTION
Students will help build and paint the set for the show under the guidance and instruction of the Tech Director. Set construction will take place on Thursday or Friday evenings and on Saturday afternoons. A schedule will be posted in the band hallway and online. Students can come to a work call as often as their schedule allows. The Tech Director will assign students to their production assignments based on leadership, attendance, work ethic, etc.
PRODUCTION CREW
Members of the Production Crew are also members of the Technical Crew. The production crew is comprised of technicians that are dedicated to a production from start to finish. Production Crew roles include: Assistant Director, Dance Captain(s), Set Construction, Painting, Stage manager, costumes/Make-up, sound board operators, light board operators, props master/mistress, properties assistant(s), crew runners, etc. Production Crew Call schedules will be posted online and in the band hallway. All performances, tech week calls, and tech week rehearsals are MANDATORY. The Tech Director will assign students to their production assignments based on leadership, attendance, work ethic, etc.
SOUND
Students assigned to this position will learn how to run a sound board, hook up wireless mics to actors, and will be responsible for all sound cues during Tech Week rehearsals and performances. Students must be detail-oriented and able to focus on a task.
LIGHTING
Students assigned to this position will learn how to run lights and will be responsible for all lighting cues during the Tech Week rehearsals and performances. Students must be detail-oriented and able to focus on a task.
PROPERTIES
Students assigned to this position will learn how to organize, catalog and maintain any props used in the show and will be responsible for making sure actors have what they need during the Tech Week rehearsals and performances. Students must be detail-oriented, organized and able to focus on a task.
RUNNING CREW
Students assigned to this position will learn how to move sets on and off the stage, open and close curtains, and help with any backstage things necessary during the Tech Week rehearsals and performances. Students must be detail-oriented, organized and able to focus on a task. Some heavy lifting may be required.
MAKE UP
Students may be asked to help with Make Up prior to Dress Rehearsal and Performances. Students may be asked to demonstrate their ability PRIOR to the show to make sure this is a good fit. This assignment will be in ADDITION to other assignments during Tech Week and Performances and must not interfere with their other duties.
